
Spatial Statistics 2011 will take place at the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands. Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport is approximately 150km/2 hours from Enschede and is served by a good variety of international carriers with destinations including Barcelona, Beijing, Dubai, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles and New York. The University of Twente is located on a campus between the towns of Enschede and Hengelo. The conference will take place in the Vrijhof Building of the university (ref. #47 on campus map).

The University of Twente is a research university which focuses on the development of technology and its impact on people and society. This focus can be seen in the range of 22 Bachelor's degree programmes and 31 Master's degree programmes which the university offers in the field of technology and behavioural and social sciences. For delegates of Spatial Statistics 2011 not staying on the University of Twente campus, daily bus shuttles will be available from both Hengelo and Enschede to the University of Twente campus. The morning departure times are detailed below and shuttles will run back to the various pick-up points at the end of each day after the conference programme has finished, with the exception of Friday when buses will only go to Hengelo and Enschede Train Stations after the conference has ended.

There are direct intercity trains from Schiphol that go straight to Enschede and Hengelo Central Stations. The journey takes approximately two hours and costs ~€22 one-way. An alternative option is to switch trains in Hengelo and travel further with a regional train to station Enschede Drienerlo. From Enschede railway station take either bus 1 to Universiteit or bus 9 to Hengelo. From Hengelo railway station take either bus 15 to Universiteit or bus 9 to Enschede. From Enschede Drienerlo railway station take bus 1 to Universiteit. There are several bus stops on the campus.
Taxis are available to hire from outside both Enschede and Hengelo railway stations. The university is a 10 minute drive and will cost ~€15 one-way.
The following car rental companies all operate out of Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt.From the A1 motorway, take the A35 motorway towards Enschede. Then take exit no.26 Enschede-West/Universiteit. Follow the signs Universiteit. There are a number of car parks on the university campus close to the Vrijhof Building; there are no charges for car parking.

The Netherlands is set to CET. In March, the Netherlands is +9 hours ahead of US Pacific Time, +6 hours ahead of US Eastern Standard Time and +1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
As in most countries in northwest Europe, the weather in the Netherlands can be very changeable from day to day at all times of the year, and the character of each season may vary from one year to another. The average maximum temperature in March is 10°C and the minimum is 1°C. It is recommended that you bring warm clothing and a waterproof jacket.
